History

Back in the 1980's, local businessman, Malcolm Stringer, owned a butchers shop on Eccleshaal Road. It was a few doors down from The Real meat Company Shop which was then an ordinary butchers shop.
When that 'ordinary butchers shop' closed, Malcolm took on the lease hoping to increase his trade by owning two sites. But the tide was turning for 'ordinary' butchers shops. Supermarkets were taking their trade. Only those selling something seriously different stood any chance of surviving.
Reading about The Real Meat Company in the press, Malcolm telephoned and asked if he could visit their headquarters in Wiltshire to find out more.
What he found inspired him. A Company with a quality, authentic and genuine product.
As part of his visit, he was taken to The Real Meat Company Shop in Bath. When he saw it, he muttered a phrase which has since become legend - "I want one of those."

To give credit to the man, within a matter of weeks, he had converted his second shop to a full Real Meat Company Franchise. With David as manager, it opened with a flourish of publicity in 1997.

At the time, The Real Meat Company Shop, Sheffield represented our northernmost Shop.

It has been a great success fuelled by the enthusiasm of Malcolm, David and, latterly, Graeme.

Did you know? On the day the Shop opened, Radio Sheffield conducted an interview with Richard Guy in the studio and a representative of the Vegetarian Society, by telephone, in London.
Deft interviewing technique by the presenter extracted an historic endorsement for the shop from the Vegetarian Society commentator.
